About the Campaign

Amazing Arcola Public Art Trail

Discover why Arcola is known as the Public Art Capital of Downstate Illinois. As you explore downtown, you'll encounter a vibrant collection of murals, sculptures, and artistic installations that celebrate the people, history, and traditions that make Arcola unique.

The trail features fifteen large-scale Walldog murals painted in 2012 by more than 130 artists from across the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Scotland, and Australia. These stunning works transform building walls into storytelling canvases, depicting scenes from Arcola's rich past and community heritage.

Many of the murals are interactive, inviting visitors to become part of the artwork. Strike a pose with floating balloons, step into historic scenes, and capture memorable photos along the way.

During the warmer months, be sure to seek out Arcola's beloved Sweeping Beauties—fourteen oversized fiberglass brooms creatively designed by artists from around the world. These colorful sculptures pay tribute to Arcola's proud designation as the Broomcorn Capital of the World and add a whimsical touch throughout the community.

The trail also includes two iconic bronze sculptures by acclaimed American sculptor Jerry McKenna. Visit the beloved Raggedy Ann and Andy sculpture, honoring Arcola native and creator Johnny Gruelle's famous characters, and stop by Benjamin Franklin, whose connection to broomcorn helped inspire one of Arcola's most enduring traditions.

Whether you're an art enthusiast, history buff, or simply looking for the perfect selfie spot, the Amazing Arcola Public Art Trail offers a fun and engaging way to experience the creativity, culture, and stories woven throughout our community.
