Honor Heroes Through a Sea of Flags

The City of Sanibel invites the community to participate in A Field of Heroes, a powerful public memorial installation honoring first responders, military members, and the heroes of September 11th. Beginning July 4, 2026, community members will have the opportunity to sponsor American flags that will become part of a moving display at Sanibel Community Park leading up to and on September 11, 2026.

This meaningful installation will transform the park into a sea of red, white, and blue as the community comes together in remembrance of the 2,977 lives lost in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. The memorial is designed to serve as a place of reflection, gratitude, unity, and patriotism for residents and visitors alike. Open to the public at no cost, the display creates an opportunity for the entire community to honor sacrifice, service, and heroism together.
