🎣🐟🌊 Fishing Clinic for Kids at Lake Lefferts
The Fishing Clinic for Kids ages 5 - 15 at Lake Lefferts is a hands-on instructional program designed to introduce young anglers to the exciting world of fishing in a safe, educational, and fun environment. Participants can choose between a Basic Class for beginners or an Advanced Class for children with casting experience who want to expand their fishing knowledge and techniques.
Fishing Clinic Details:
- Dates: Wednesdays beginning July 8 - August 5, 2026 (5 consecutive Wednesdays)
- Location: Lake Lefferts Park - Ravine Drive and Matawan Ave.
Basic Class (Requirements - Must bring your own fishing rod and reel. A parent/guardian must stay.)
Basic Class will be on Wednesdays from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm (25 spots available)
- Learn to cast
- Basic baiting of the hook
- Safe hook removal & release of fish
- Basic Fishing Etiquette
GOAL: Learn all the basic skills to be able to go out, fish, and have fun
Advanced Class ( Must bring your own fishing rod & reel and can cast. A parent or guardian must stay)
Advanced Class will be on Wednesdays from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm (25 spots available)
- Different rod and reel setups and their purposes
- Tying different knots and when to use them
- Difference in terminal tackle and uses
- Different lures and their uses
- How to apply different techniques to use different lures
The advanced class will be more focused on using lures and specific fishing techniques, as well as specific gear, knot tying, and more in-depth information
The program focuses on building confidence, developing outdoor skills, and encouraging a lifelong appreciation for fishing and conservation. Whether your child is learning to cast for the first time or refining advanced techniques, every session is designed around one simple goal: Learn to Fish and Have Fun.
