About the Campaign
🌊🌱 Restoring Camp Wright’s Shoreline for the Children Who Call It Home 🏕️💙
A Place Where Children Grow
For nearly 100 years, Camp Wright has been a place where children grow in faith, confidence, and community. Since 1930, young people from the Eastern Shore, Baltimore, and the Washington DC area have come to Camp Wright to form friendships, deepen their spiritual lives, and experience God’s creation in a setting designed just for them.
Each summer, more than 1,475 children participate in Camp Wright’s Day and Resident programs. These experiences are not simply recreational — they are formative. Campers learn teamwork, independence, empathy, and resilience in an environment that nurtures their social, physical, mental, and spiritual development. For many children, Camp Wright becomes a defining part of their childhood.
Why the Shoreline Matters to Children
The shoreline along the Chesapeake Bay is one of the most meaningful spaces at Camp Wright. It is where children gather for games, ceremonies, and reflection. It is where friendships deepen while watching the sunset, where campers experience moments of awe in the natural world, and where memories are created that last a lifetime.
Today, that shoreline is at risk. Erosion is steadily encroaching on the area, threatening both the natural habitat and the safe access children need to fully experience this space. Without restoration, children may lose access to one of the most special parts of camp — a place that supports their sense of wonder, belonging, and connection to God’s creation.
Restoring the shoreline is not about preserving land for its own sake. It is about preserving the experiences that help children grow.
How You Can Help Support Campers Today and Tomorrow
This restoration effort gives donors the opportunity to directly support the children who rely on Camp Wright for meaningful summer experiences. There are two ways to participate.
- Community donation tiers allow supporters to contribute at a level that reflects their personal commitment to Camp Wright’s mission and the children it serves.
- Purchase-to-Support Opportunities allow donors to fund specific elements of the restoration, such as benches, trees, boulders, or shoreline materials that will be installed on site. These contributions help create safe, welcoming spaces where children can gather, reflect, and build lifelong memories.
Every gift plays a role in ensuring Camp Wright continues to be a place where children thrive.
Why Your Support Is Needed Now
The shoreline restoration project represents a $400,000 investment in the future of Camp Wright and the children it serves. Thanks to a generous lead gift of $100,000 from the Children’s Home Foundation, along with early support from parish communities across the diocese, construction is already underway and scheduled to be completed before the upcoming camp season.
This is a pivotal moment. With work in progress and momentum building, additional support will ensure the project is completed on time and that children can safely enjoy the shoreline for years to come.
By giving today, you are not simply restoring a shoreline — you are helping protect a place where children discover faith, friendship, and a sense of belonging that stays with them long after camp ends.
