About the Campaign

The Keep Duncanville Beautiful (KDB) Board and the Community Engagement Committee are excited to announce a Litter Campaign Design Competition! This competition invites students from local schools – Duncanville ISD, Village Tech, and UME Preparatory Academy – to create an inspiring and impactful anti-litter campaign. The winning design will be used citywide throughout the year to support all of Duncanville's litter initiatives.


Open to students in grades 7–12 attending schools within Duncanville ISD, Village Tech, or UME Preparatory Academy.


Competition Timeline

  1. Launch of Competition: April 1st, 2025
  2. Submission Period: April 1st, - April 31st
  3. Judging Period: May 1st – May 24st, 2025
  4. Winner Announcement: May 28th , 2025
  5. Campaign Launch: June 2025 (for implementation throughout the year)


Announcement and Recognition

  1. Winner Announcement: Winners will be announced on April 5, 2025, via the city’s website and social media platforms.
  2. Recognition Event: Winning students and their schools will be invited to a special City Council meeting for official recognition and prize distribution.


Campaign Implementation

The winning design will become the official litter campaign for the City of Duncanville, with the city promoting it through:

  1. Citywide posters and banners
  2. Social media and digital platforms
  3. Public spaces and events associated with KDB litter initiatives

Submission Instructions

  1. Submissions must be received by 5:00 PM on March 1, 2025.
Guidelines


Submission Requirements


1. Campaign Theme:

  1. The campaign should focus on promoting litter reduction and environmental stewardship.
  2. Entries should include a slogan or tagline that encapsulates the anti-litter message in a memorable and impactful way.


2. Design Elements:

  1. Each submission should include at least one visual component (e.g., poster, digital ad, social media graphic).
  2. Designs can be hand-drawn, digitally created, or a combination of both. High-quality scans or images of hand-drawn designs are acceptable.
  3. Entries must be appropriate for all audiences and reflect a positive, community-focused message.


3. Campaign Concept:

  1. Students must include a brief written explanation (150–250 words) of their campaign concept. This should describe the intended impact, target audience, and how it can encourage the community to reduce litter.


4. File Format:

  1. Digital submissions should be in PDF or JPG format.
  2. Physical submissions can be delivered to the KDB office or mailed by the deadline.


5. Submission Form:

  1. Each entry must be accompanied by a completed submission form, including the student’s name, grade, school, contact information, and parental/guardian consent.


Judging Criteria

Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria:


1. Creativity and Originality (30%):

  1. Unique approach to the anti-litter theme, demonstrating originality in slogan, visuals, and concept.


2. Clarity of Message (30%):

  1. Effectiveness in conveying a clear and positive anti-litter message that resonates with the Duncanville community.


3. Visual Appeal (20%):

  1. Aesthetic quality and visual impact of the design, ensuring it captures attention and is suitable for public display.


4. Feasibility for City Use (20%):

  1. Practicality of the design for citywide use across different formats (e.g., posters, digital ads, social media).
