The work depicts a small hand in the middle of a large hand, suggesting relationship between adult and child, large and small. Located atop of a small mound at the entryway into the community center and adjacent to the playing fields, it serves to greet people as they come to the facility. Viewers regularly see children waving at the artwork from cars as they enter the community facility.

One of the main objectives for this sculpture was to function as a greeting element to all of our visitors. And we can proudly say that our community is responding just how we imagined. Our visitors can be seen almost always giving a wave to the art piece, and for our younger visitors it has now become a playground. 

Michael Stutz is based in Southern California and has created public artworks in many locations including Portland, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Washington, New York, and Japan. In addition to his public art practice, he has also created art installations and temporary works that have been featured in both oneperson and group shows. He was a professional prop designer and builder for many years and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Tennessee Knoxville.    

Michael Stutz sculpting style is truly unique. With most of his pieces taking him months to complete, mainly due to the immense size of them. Made from woven bronze, this 10 feet tall sculpture took 4 months from start to finish. It is a representation of Michael's early work, and the beginning of a great journey for him.
